Trash, restore, and retention
How deletion works, how to get something back, and when it's gone for good.

Deleting a document is a soft delete: it moves to Trash rather than vanishing. From Trash you can restore it, or empty the Trash to remove things immediately. Anything left in Trash is permanently purged after your organization's retention window.
Restore something
- 1Open Trash from the sidebar.
- 2Find the document and choose Restore, it returns to its original category with its tags intact.
Permanent deletion
- Documents in Trash are purged automatically after the retention period (an Owner/Admin setting).
- You can force it with Empty Trash.
- Once purged, the file bytes are removed from storage and cannot be recovered.
Good to know
An Owner can set the retention window per organization. See The organization admin area.
